An access log is a detailed list of all the files that were accessed by the guests of a certain site. Every single file which was requested for whatever reason will be listed, so if you have a single webpage with 3 embedded pictures, one video and one embedded text file, for instance, the access log shall contain a total of six entries - one for each of the 6 files that were accessed when the site visitor opened the page. A log usually shows the file name and path, the date, as well as the visitor’s OS, Internet browser and IP address. Occasionally you may also find the referrer Internet sites that sent the visitors to your site. The data an access log file features is in human-readable plain text format. It can also be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to prepare reports on the functionality of a website, independent of the web stats which your server may have produced.

Access Log Manager in Hosting

Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. Once you sign in to your hosting account and visit this section, you'll find a list of all the domain names and subdomains which you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to press a button that'll be available next to every domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you will see a download link along with the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your PC and examine it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect immediately, so if you don't require one, you could stop it with only a click from the same section of the Control Panel. You'll still have the ability to access the already created content by simply clicking on the Download link.
