Transferring an already registered domain name involves switching the domain registrar that provides the domain name registration service, so after the transfer, you’ll have to manage things like renewal fees or DNS modifications through the new registrar company. The transfer process is standard with most generic and country-code Top-Level Domain extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and involve different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain entails several necessary steps and one of them is unlocking the domain. The lock is a security feature, which is being adopted by more and more domain name registry organizations. It is a default feature supported by all generic TLDs. If a domain name is locked, it won’t be possible to initiate a transfer process, so nobody can even try to take your domain. The lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain is registered and all new domains that support this feature are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Hosting

If you order a hosting plan from our company, you will be able to administer all domain names registered through us via our Hepsia Control Panel and you’ll be able to unlock any of them with just several mouse clicks. All registrations will be listed in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the hosting Control Panel and for each one of them you will see a mini padlock symbol. Clicking on it will show you the current security lock status. If the domain is locked and you would like to transfer it away, you will just have to click once more and you will be all set. Locking a domain name is just as easy and since the domains are managed in the exact same location as the hosting account itself, you won’t need to log in and out of different interfaces.
